How To Make a Life Size Gingerbread House
Are you not sure what you should do with all of the boxes that have been piling up from your families Christmas gift deliveries? I was there too. There were so many of them that I decided to put them to good use. I made my daughter a life size gingerbread house to play in! It not only is a fun indoor activity for your child to play with when it’s too cold to go outside, but it also doubles as cute Christmas decor!
Materials
- Cardboard boxes
- Hot glue gun
- Hot glue
- Clear packing tape
- Paint
- Paint brush
- Paint sponges of various sizes
- Paper plates
- Scissors
- X-ACTO knife
- Pencil
- Ruler
Materials used for house pictured in this post:
- ___ box and pieces of two smaller boxes
- 14 paper plates
Instructions
- Cut open boxes along one seam of each box.
- Use your biggest box to make the main part of the house. Flip the main box inside out so that the labels are on the inside of the box. Use both hot glue and tape to reseal the box.
- Cut additional boxes to make the roof. If needed, cut smaller pieces of cardboard to tape underneath to help support the roofs shape.
- Attach the roof to the main house with hot glue and tape.
- With a pencil, draw out the door, door knob and windows desired. Use an exacto knife to cut out all of your pieces.
- To make the roof shingles, start by using scissors to cut each plate in half. Then cut the rim off of each half plate.
- Use hot glue to adhere the roof shingles to the roof.
- With paint, decorate your gingerbread house however you want. Have fun with it! You can paint icicles with a paint brush or use a paint sponge and dob polkadots.
